Caterpillar of Large Yellow Underwing Noctua pronuba

The Large Yellow Underwing caterpillar feeds at night on various grasses, weeds and herbaceous plants from late summer to early spring and hides underground by day and to pupate.

The caterpillar can grow to some 45mm before pupating. It can be various shades of brown, grey and green, all later stages with the black dorsal marks.
