This large, pale yellow and black striped wasp is covered in white or pale blond hair.
Its large size and long antennae seem to indicate that it is a male.
The facial and rear thorax markings look like those of the Tree Wasp, Dolichovespula sylvestris but the
colouring and hairiness are strange.
On the wall of my house in south-eastern England. The yellow is much lighter than most
vespula/dolichvespula species.
The shaggy hair and long antennae are reminiscent of Highland Cattle.
More of the thorax and abdomen.
