Gasteruption Wasp Gasteruption jaculator

Gasteruption Wasps have a long, slender abdomen held above their head and thorax and the female has an extremely long ovipositor from the tip of the abdomen for laying eggs in the nests of solitary bees and wasps (her larva then eats either the food left for the host species or the larva itself). Gasteruption jaculator, shown, is common over much of Europe, including the UK.

Adults eat nectar. In flight, the hind legs, with their white socks, are carried dangling behind.
