Gypsy Cuckoo Bumblebee male
Above is the male of the Gypsy Cuckoo Bumblebee. The female is a parasite, invading the nest of her host (usually the White-tailed Bumblebee but also the Buff-tailed and Cryptic), killing the queen and laying her own eggs which are then raised by the White-tailed workers. The nest then dies out, since the cuckoo bees have no workers and contribute nothing to the host colony.
The Gypsy Cuckoo Bee is native to most of Europe.
