The European Wool Carder Bee is a solitary bee, one of several "anthidium" species.
Above is a male with claspers on the end of his abdomen.
Above is a female showing why they are called "wool carder" bees -- she scrapes hairs off hairy leaves and rolls them into a ball beneath her body,
to carry away for lining her nest.
Another female, above. They are also called mason and leaf-cutter bees, the latter as she also cuts pieces of leaf and flower petal to build her nest.
