One of the world's largest solitary bees at some 30+mm long, the Broad-footed Carpenter Bee is native to forests of
Southeast Asia (these in Singapore). They have iridescent wings, a shiny black thorax, black abdomen and blue-green eyes.
The female burrows into dead wood to lay her eggs, hence the name "carpenter" bee. She doesn't use living trees.
The buzzing frequency of these huge bees releases pollen from flowers they visit.
