Hyperaspis Pantherina Ladybird Hyperaspis pantherina

This is thought to be the Hyperaspis pantherina ladybird. This tiny beetle is native to South America but is imported into several other regions as a bio-control agent, killing the Jacaranda Bug/Ensign scale.

Photographed on Madeira, it has also been introduced to Hawaii, St Helena and several African countries to control Jacaranda and other Ensign scale.
