Fregate Island Giant Beetle Polposipus herculeanus

The Fregate Island Giant Beetle, also called Fregate Island Palm Beetle and just Fregate Beetle, is a large, flightless beetle endemic to Fregate Island in the Seychelles.

They live mainly in trees and bushes and both adult and larvae eat decaying fruit, seeds and leaves. They can grow to some 30 mm long. The abdomen is hard. Habitat destruction threatens their long term survival.
