The Blue Death-feigning Beetle, also called Desert Ironclad Beetle, is native to arid sandy deserts of southwestern USA and northwestern Mexico. It is an omnivore darkling beetle and grows to some 20mm long. The blue, which darkens with humidity, is a wax to prevent moisture loss. When threatened, the beetle plays dead so predators think they are not fresh.
