Ruddy Darter Dragonfly Sympetrum sanguineum

The Ruddy Darter Dragonfly is native to most of temperate Eurasia and North Africa. The male, above, is bright red with a clubbed end of abdomen. The similar Common Darter is usually less bright red and has a straighter abdomen. The females of Ruddy and Common Darter look similar. Ruddy Darters have fully black legs (unlike Common and Vagrant Darters).
