The Broad-bodied Chaser dragonfly occurs over much of Europe and Near and Central Asia. The body is flattened (hence Latin name "depressa").
Above is the adult male showing the blue over most of the abdomen with some yellow spots along the side and a distinctive brown section
like underarm sweat marks on each wing.
The female, above, has a broader body than the male. Both females and juvenile males are yellow; females become darker brown with old age.
The powder-blue colouring is a powder-like coating which leaves the yellow spots to show through at the edges.
The underside of both male and female is dark brown.
