This enormous grasshopper with particulalrly long antennae investigated the inside of our yurt
on the Kazakh steppe. I haven't been able to ascertain her species yet.
The above red-necked grasshopper is thought to be the Moroccan Locust, Dociostaurus maroccanus,
which is prevalent from the Canary Islands in the west to Kazakhstan in the east, including North Africa and Mediterranean Europe.
They spend most of their lives as solitary grasshoppers but occasionally gather to swarm as locusts.
These banded grasshoppers are very well camouflaged in their rocky habitat.
This is a different species of banded grasshopper, more suited for semi-desert terrain.
This brown grasshopper was in rocky mountain foothills.

armoured pronutum and with striped eyes like the Egyptian locust, and one of another well-camouflaged rock dweller.
