The Common Green Grasshopper is distinguished by a gentle hourglass white line on its green head and "pronutum" (saddle over the thorax).
There are sometimes black wedged shadows to the line. It is native to temperate grasslands over most of the UK and much of Eurasia.
In early summer its head and body are green but as the grass turns browner, so does the grasshopper, easpecially the male.
Both male and female adults are fully winged. Length is some 15-23mm. The abdomen has black stripes.
The "song", made by the male rubbing his back leg on his wing, carries a long way and is a continuous burst of several seconds.
