The Sandbar Shark, recognised by its massive first dorsal fin, is native to mainly tropical and subtropical
coastal waters of the Atlantic (eastern and western), Indian and western Pacific Oceans.
In addition to the high, triangular first dorsal fin, it has particularly long pectoral fins and a rounded snout.
It is also known in English as the Brown Shark, but has a greyish topside as indicated by its scientific name plumbeus and French/Spanish names "gris".
It grows to 2.5 metres long.
It is one of the most fished sharks of the northeastern American coast, particularly prized for its massive dorsal
fin, and is vulnerable from overfishing.
