The Giant Freshwater Stingray is native to large rivers (including estuaries) of Southeast Asia (Indochina, especially
the Mekong and Chao Phraya, and Borneo). Historically it had a wider range including South Asia. It is the largest stingray in the world
and one of the largest freshwater fish, growing to 2.2 metres across.
It is endangered through habitat degradation and fragmentation and through overfishing.
