Chimaera are ancient, cartilaginous fish in three genera, variously called Elephant Sharks, Ghost Sharks and even Elephant Fish, the last leading to confusion with the freshwater Mormyridae elephantfish. Like them, the proboscis has a weak electric field used to detect prey in the sand (molluscs, other invertebrates and small fish).
