There are two species of Snipefish which look similar, the Longspine shown here and the Slender, which also has a long spine on its second dorsal fin. The Longspine Snipefish is native to the Indian, western Pacific and southeast Atlantic Oceans.

The Longspine is a reddish (pink, orange) fish with a silvery underside. It grows to 20cm including its elongated snout. Diet is zooplankton.
