The Zebra Moray Eel is native to coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific from Africa's east coast to America's west coast.
It is the only species in its genus and is sometimes included in the Echidna genus of morays. (The Barred or Banded Moray,
Echidna polyzona, is sometimes also called the Zebra Moray.)
It has a short, rounded face and is barred black (or dark brown) and white like its namesake.
It grows typically to just over half a metre but can reach 1.5 metres long. It is a nocturnal predator, usually hiding in rocks in the day.
Diet is crustaceans, sea urchins and molluscs.
