The Brown Moray Eel is native to reefs and coasts of the northeastern Atlantic from Portugal to Senegal,
including Macaronesia and the Mediterranean coast.
As its scientific name "unicolor" indicates, it is a fairly plain eel. Its colour can be brown or grey, both
with a darker face and pale bluish eyes. It grows to about a metre long.
Like other morays, it is a nocturnal predator, usually hiding in rocks in the day. Diet is crustaceans, molluscs and fish.
The final image above right shows a Brown Moray with a Black Moray, showing the striking difference of the white eyes of the latter.
It is not unusual to see morays of different species associating together during the day.
