The Fire Eel is native to slow-moving freshwater of Indo-china, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Much of its time is spent buried in river beds or muddy flood plains with its snout above the mud/sand.
It grows to a metre long - the longest of its Spiny Eel family. It preys on aquatic larvae, worms, crustaceans
and small fish, but also eats detritus and vegetation.
