Seadragons are related to seahorses and pipefish. The Weedy Seadragon, also called the Common Seadragon, is native to reefs and seagrass meadows of southern Australian coasts.

Their red and yellow markings and leaflike appendages give them camouflage in seaweed. They can grow to nearly half a metre.

Until the discovery of the Ruby Seadragon in 2015, it had been the only species in its genus (the Leafy Seadragon is in a different genus).
