Turbo Snail
Several marine snails have the name Turbo Snail, mainly in the large genus Turbo. Some in the family Turbinidae, which includes the Turbo genus, are called Turban Snails. The latter name is from the similar shape to the turban headgear and the family name; the former and family name refer to a spinning top shape (same root as turbine). Several turbos and turbans have attractive shells, used for human jewelry. All are part of the superfamily Trochoidea, including the Trochidae also called Top Snails after their shape resemblance to spinning top toys.
