The Red-rimmed Melania, also called the Malaysian Trumpet Snail, is a freshwater snail native to North Africa, the Middle East,
Southern and Southeast Asia. It has been introduced to tropical/subtropical areas elsewhere and can tolerate brackish water. It is usually coloured
green or brown but can be black; the red-rimmed name is for the red-brown spots or streaks on the trumpet-shaped shell. It grows to some 20-40cm long
and eats algae and plants.
