The Colombian Giant Ramshorn Snail is a freshwater snail native not only to Colombia but to much of northern South America and
some of Central America. It has also been introduced elsewhere, often to control vegetation or algae - although it is omnivorous and also eats dead
animal matter and detritus.
The rams' horn-shaped shell is usually striped (reddish or dark brown stripes) and typically grows to some 3.5-5cm diameter,
but can be larger. Despite their name and rams' horn shape, they are not closely related to the Great Ramshorn freshwater snail or other ramshorn
snails in family Planorbidae.
