The Giant Freshwater Prawn, also called the Giant River Prawn, is native to freshwater streams and rivers of tropical and subtropical South and Southeast Asia to northern Australia. As its name says, it is giant - for a prawn - growing to 30cm (a foot) long, and it lives in freshwater - although its larval stage requires brackish water. The front legs have small branched claws to assist in feeding.
