The Packhorse or Eastern Rock Lobster is a species of spiny lobster native to coastal rocks of eastern Australia and
northern New Zealand. It has several other common names and is called a crayfish locally. It was moved from the Jasus genus of southern
ocean spiny lobsters to its own genus. It is a large lobster, growing to some 60cm (24 inches) long; it is larger and browner/greener than the
Southern or Red Rock Lobster (see below). Like other rock lobsters, they hide in rock crevices in the day and hunt or scavenge for food at night.
The Red or Southern Rock Lobster is a species of spiny lobster in the native to coastal rocks of southern Australia and
around New Zealand. It is called a crayfish locally. It has a red body and grows typically to some 15cm long but can reach 30cm. Like other
rock lobsters, they hide in rock crevices in the day and hunt or scavenge for food at night.
