Krill are tiny crustaceans native to all the world's oceans and are 11 different genera. Most of them live in swarms. They are an important food for small fish and invertebrates and large baleen whales. Other fish, penguins, seals and some humans are among those relying on krill for food.

Krill's anatomy is similar to that of shrimp and lobster. The shell is translucent (but becomes pink on cooking or freezing). Most are 1-2cm long, but some are larger. They feed on plankton. Research indicates that Krill may be able to digest and break down some of the micro plastic pollution in the oceans. Krill, particularly rich Arctic and Antartic Krill, are threatened by climate change.
