The Florida Blue Crayfish, also called Crawfish in its native Everglades, is endemic to Florida. It can be blue or brown.
(Another blue-coloured crayfish called just the Blue Crayfish (as Florida's is also), Cambarus monongalensis, more robust and with
red-tipped claws, is native to Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.) It grows typically to 10-15 cm long and is a detritivore.
The female protects eggs and larvae under her tail for one month before releasing them.
