The Mangrove Horseshoe Crab, also called the Round-tailed Horseshoe Crab, is native to tropical mangroves and
brakish mudflats of South and Southeast Asia. It looks similar to the three other species of marine Horseshoe Crabs but, as its alternative
name indicates, it has a round tail section rather than triangular. It is also the smallest, with the larger females growing to some
30cm long including tail (tail length some 17-19cm). They are threatened by habitat loss (development of the mangroves and mudflats),
pollution, entanglement in discarded fishing nets and collection for medical use of their blue blood.
