The Brown Crab, also called just the Edible Crab, is native to shallow, rocky areas of the North Sea and northeastern Atlantic coasts. It has a "piecrust" top and black-tipped pincers. The shell is usually brown (but turns red when cooked). A mature adult can reach a body width of 25cm (10 inches).
