The Tench is a brown fish with a flattened tail, native to ponds, lakes and still, muddy water
through most of Europe. It prefers muddy, still water to clear streams and in cold spells it buries itself in the mud.

Tench feed on insect larvae, worms and some aquatic plants. They grow to 50cm long.
They used to be considered part of the carp and minnow family but have been moved to their own family.
