Ide orfefully-crowded: the Ide, also called the Orfe, is a fish in the Dace genus native to well-oxygenated large ponds, lakes and rivers of Scandinavia, central/eastern Europe and western Asia.

It was introduced to the UK in the 1800s and is now widespread. It was also introduced elsewhere in western Europe, North America and New Zealand.

As an adult, it is a thick-set, silvery fish, often with a gold wash on its smallish scales and with orange or red fins. It can grow to half a metre long but is usually much less.
