Bream, Chub, Barbel, Crucian and Mirror Carp.
If you find a carp-looking large fish with dark tail and without the extended dorsal fin
or you find a torpedo-shaped, barbel-looking fish without any barbels, you're probably looking at a Chub.
The Chub, called the European or Common Chub when needed to distinguish from other species of Chub, is a member of
the carp family native to slow rivers, canals and still water in northern Eurasia.
Chub and Barbel.
It grows to some 30-60cm and was previously placed in the Dace genus. As if it isn't already difficult to separate Roach and Rudd,
the Chub will hybdrise with both of these. In continental Europe, the (Common) Nase can also look similar, as can southern European chubs.
