Florida and coastal Central America. They grow to some 25cm long.
Adult males and females have a strikingly different appearance. Shown is the adult male with his blue head and yellow or greenish body.
Females and juveniles/transitional males have a yellow head and upper body with white underside. Some have a black lateral line.
Females and juveniles form groups. Large males dominate a harem of female and juveniles/transitionals or are solitary.
