The Bigeye Trevally, also called Big-eyed Jack, is native to the coastal areas of Indian and Pacific Oceans,
from East Africa to the west coast of Central America.
It is a gregarious fish forming large schools. Its scientific name sexfasciatus
and occasional name of Six-banded Trevally refers to the juvenile which is gold coloured with 5-6 dark grey vertical bars.
The colour changes to silver-blue and the bars fade on maturity.
Like the Golden Trevally, the Bigeye can grow to 1-1.2 metres long. Diet is smaller fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
