The Three-lined Monocle Bream is a Threadfin Bream related to the Snapper family rather than the Seabreams.
It is native to reefs and mangroves of the western Pacific Ocean from the South China Sea and the Phippines to Australia and Tonga.
It is similar to the better-known Two-lined (Bridled) Monocle Bream but has three pale stripes from the snout over the head.
It is brownish with white pearlescent stripes along the top which angle sharply in about halfway along and pearlescent white on the underside.
The dorsal fin is gold-edged. It grows to 20-25cm long.
They prey on small fish and marine invertebrates.
