The Vlamingi Tang, also called the Bignose Surgeonfish or Bignose Unicornfish,
is native to tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific from East Africa to the Great Barrier Reef.
It has purple highlights on its big nose, its eyes, lips and gills and thin purple lines and/or spots on
its body.
Like some other Naso tangs, it has a yellow, extendable anal fin but the extendable dorsal fin is blue-grey.
Large for surgeonfish, they can grow to over 60 cm long.
Most of its diet is algae and seaweed.
Like some other tangs, it can darken its colour to brownish when stressed or needing camouflage.
(Above right, with its relative, another unicornfish or unicorn surgeonfish).
