The Black-spot Surgeonfish, also called Eye-spot Surgeonfish/Tang, is native to reefs of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans where it forages, singly or in pairs, for seaweed.

The body of the adult is brownish. There is a dark spot just behind the eye, above the gills (about the size of the eye) which gives the fish its name. The dorsal fin is yellowish with a thin blue line below the base. The fish can grow to 50 cm long.
