The Two-spot Red Snapper is native to reefs of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. Fin edges are dark and juveniles have
two spots near the dorsal fin. Adults can be silver or red, becoming redder with age. Adult fish can grow to nearly a metre (80-90cm) long.
Many thanks to Martin Lee for the above pictures taken near Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
These, not taken by Martin, are also believed to be Two-spot Red Snappers despite having a slightly more
upturned mouth. There are over 100 species in the Lutjanus family and over 100 fish called "snappers", many with "red"
or another variation of red colour in their name.
