The Small Red Scorpionfish is a venomous fish native to the subtropical eastern Atlantic coasts from the Bay of Biscay
to Senegal, including the Canary Islands, Azores and the Mediterranean.
It is generally red or reddish-brown with white and brown, variable markings and has one or more tentacles on the face/head
but none under the chin unlike the Large Red/Bigscale. It has a wide head and tapering body (like the sculpins) and can grow to 15-20cm (6-8 inches) in length.
An ambush predator, it is usually sedentary and solitary. Prey is small fish, small crustaceans and invertebrates.
