The Double-barred Spinefoot, also called the Two-bar Rabbitfish, is native to reefs of the Indian Ocean and western Pacific.
The dorsal spines, raised against predators, are venomous, but painful not lethal to humans.
It grows to typically to 20cm long (can reach 30cm) and is herbivorous, eating algae and seaweed.
It has scribbled patterns on its head and nape around its two dark brown bars, but not on the rest of its body like the related
and similar-looking Scribbled Spinefoot, S. doliatus (with which it apparently hybridises in the Indo-Malay region).
