The Spotted Sharpnose, also called the Jewel Puffer, is native to tropical reefs of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans.
It has attractive turquoise stripes and spots on a reddish-brown background and a large black spot with a blue
centre and turquoise border by its dorsal fin. It grows to 11cm long.
Like all pufferfish, it can inflate its body to over 3 times its size as a warning to predators and it contains a deadly toxin.
It eats crustaceans, molluscs and other invertebrates.
