The Southern Pompano, also called the African Pompano (as is another species: Alectis ciliaris) is said to be
native in three distinct populations: one off the southeastern coast of Africa, one around the Gulf of Aden to Pakistan and one around Bali
in Indonesia.
The fish is snub-nosed (but the smaller Snub-nosed Pompano, Trachinotus blochii, is a different species),
silver-bodied with yellow fins and tail and grows to just under a metre long.
