Russell's Lionfish, also called the Spotless or Plaintail Firefish, is one of several venomous lionfish species.
Russell's with Red (Volitans) Lionfish
It grows to 30cm (1 foot) long. As its name indicates, it has no spots on the rear dorsal, anal or tail fins,
unlike related lionfish. It has spotted pelvic fins, a row of venomous dorsal spines and long, curving pectoral fins with red stripes.
It is native to the Indian and western Pacific Oceans, from eastern Africa to Japan/northern Australia.
