The Raggedfin, Ragged-fin, Spotfin or Broad-barred Lionfish is one of several venomous lionfish species.
It is native to tropical lagoons and reefs in the Indian and western Pacific Oceans.
A grossly ugly but also attractive-looking fish with broad and narrow red or brown bars on white, it is mainly nocturnal, hunting crabs,
shrimps and small fish at night.
It grows to 20cm long. It has spots on its pectoral fins, but so do other lionfish such as the Volitans. Its spines
are highly venomous to predators and humans.
One of the few predators able to resist the toxin is said to be the Moray Eeels.
