The Grey Gurnard is native to seabeds of the eastern Atlantic Ocean from Iceland, Norway and the Baltic to
northwestern Africa, including the Mediterranean and Black Seas. The only fish in its genus, it can be grey-brown but also can be reddish
and has a white or cream underside. It grows typically to 30cm long but can reach 60cm. Like other gurnards, it emits sounds: grunts and knocks.
It walks on the seabed hunting small crustaceans and fish using the first three rays of its pectoral fins
extended like fingers or feelers on each side as feet, with pelvic fins for stability. It is farmed for food in south and southeast Asia.
