The Yellow Prawn Goby, also called Yellow Watchman Goby, is native to coastal bays and lagoons of the western Pacific. The larger females can grow to 10cm long. They can be bright yellow, grey-brown or beige with darker stripes, all with white spots, and an individual can vary between these at different points. Typically, males are smaller and bright yellow while females are larger and pale brown, but this is not always the case and both can vary between yellow and brown (it is unclear whether they change gender with colour, but it is reported that a pair can remain bright yellow but can spawn).

Yellow Prawn Gobies live in a burrow in a symbiotic relationship with Pistol Shrimps. The shrimps (which are accustomed to darkness and do not see well in sunlight) build and maintain the burrow while the "watchman" gobies look out for predators.
