The Fire Dartfish, also called Fire Goby, Magnificent Firefish and Red Firefish, is native to coral reefs from the Indian Ocean (East African
coast) to the central Pacific (Hawaii). Dartfish are in the goby family.
The Fire Dartfish has a white front half with a yellow face and pale yellowy-green elongated dorsal fin
which it can erect. The back half is a graduated fire red with a dark tail. It grows to 9cm long.
They form monogamous pairs and live in burrows in the sand, to where they will go to hide from predators or to sleep.
