Turbot Scophthalmus maximus (Psetta maxima)

The Turbot is a large, left-eyed flatfish native to shallow, sandy coasts of the north-eastern Atlantic, including the Baltic and the Mediterranean. It grows to a metre long.

It is mottled greyish on top and has a white underside. Like other flatfish, it is born with an eye on each side but one eye migrates so that the adult can lie half-buried in sand.
