The Brill is a flatfish native to sandy or muddy sea floor of the north-eastern Atlantic,
including the Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Seas.
It is mottled brownish on top and has a cream or pale pink underside. It grows typically to half a metre
long but can reach three-quarters of a metre. Like other flatfish, it is born with an eye on each side but the right eye migrates
to the left side of the head so that the adult can lie camouflaged on the seabed or half-buried in sand.
